Where exactly is this place?

This was the scene captured on my camera in the mid- 1980's.
I'm certain some of you would be able to identify this place and maybe even
the approximate location where I was actually standing on.
So, where is this place?
Clue: Look at the background carefully.
The interesting answer.... in a day or two.

hmmmm Northeastern Singapore? =I

I see lots of coconut trees in the background.

Xinli, your general location is correct...NE Sg. But NE Sg is a very big area. See the low shore at low tide....very flat. Not many places, except for this one, has such a contour ( 80's ).
Good try!!!

Uncle Dicko at Bedok beach?

Unk Dicko said...

Bedok in the 80's wasn't like this. By the 80's, most of Bedok's kampongs and seafront were already reclaimed.
This can only be at a place still relatively "untouched" in NE area.

hmmmmm

Pulau Ubin (Chek Jawa side) or Pulau Tekong?

Like they say...you are getting very HOT, Xinli!

Clue: Ok...this should be a place known to you Xinli, if you know what I mean.

haha

Pulau Tekong (Kampong Ladang)?

If it is, it looks quite different from the Tekong I have seen =o

Unk Dicko said...

Very close! But not Tg Ladang.
Ok, if you still have your Tekong map...I was exactly at MRN 720582.
The tip of that jutting promontory in the background is Tg Petemin. I was standing in the location between Tg Renggan ( to the North )and Kg Pasir Merah.
Not to worry, I shall put up my Orienteering map of the island and bring back lots of wonderful memories for Tekong lovers.
Well done, Xinli.

haha ooooo =D

although I don't have grid numbers on the map, I think I know where the place is now.

The area nearby is what we call the Permatang area with lots of Rubber trees and a point call the OCS Training Shed to the south.

I shall look forward to the post on Tekong! =)

Now you have hit the jackpot! Absolutely correct...that's also what we used to call it too - the Kg Permatang area.
Yes, there'll be much more info in the Master map as well as in the blogpost.

this was where we used to trudge in the mud carrying those heavy, wooden sampans and in later years, fibreglass canoes.

Yes YG we had our fair share of this., it was back-breaking even for 2 persons to carry the old and very heavy double canoes over this kind of muddy shoreline. But it provided a real tough challenge to our trainee teacher campers....to be rugged and toughen themselves for the years ahead.

Your cartography of 'Master Map of Tekong' mapped in 1980s is informative and helpful for campers.

I got the wrong answer becos any picture of coconut trees and the beaches just guessed to be Bedok or Changi. Quite close across the Tekong though ; )

Yes James...the scene could easily be from Bedok, Changi esp Kg Mata Kkan area. We old timers yearn for those years again when life was so carefree and the kampongs and sea brought us so close to nature. Hardly bought any fruits as we plucked, picked what we wanted from our gardens and elsewhere...sugarcane,buah cherries, rambutans, jambus, guavas, buah susu, mango, langsat, duku, black berries, coconuts, durians, bananas, jackfruit, mangosteens,....

Thanks for the nostalgic memories to your adventurous camping photos and blogs, unk Dicko. Plucking all the long list of fruits grown wildly in the kampung days of Mother Nature and floating in my thoughts of the fun and merry unforgettable years yonder. Cheers!
