Unk Dicko and Minstrels entertaining today at Suntec City.

The Active Ageing Carnival 2011 was officially launched yesterday, Saturday April 2nd at Suntec City Convention Centre by Minister Lim Boon Heng. I was at the official Opening together with several past Active Ager Winners.
From my estimate the number of people who came has certainly increased over the previous years. It was jam-packed with not only the older folks but also younger people.

My Minstrels and I entertained the visitors with a selection of songs from 1.10 - 1.40 pm.

Today we will make our 2nd appearance at 2.20 pm at Level 3 with another super selection of songs.
Quite a few people have been requesting for Unk Dicko to do a solo of IZ Kamakawiwo'ole 's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".
I did a tiny portion of it on the FM 90.5 programme on Friday night with the Richmonds.

If there's time, I will do a full SOLO version ( my own version following the style of the great IZ ) at the Carnival this afternoon during our scheduled performance.
Time: 2: 20 pm - 2. 55pm
Venue:  Demo Performing area at Level 3.
Don't miss it.  Bring along your video camera if you wish to.

Ps:  At 10 am sharp, at the Main Stage at level 4...I shall be modelling some sports attire together with my 4 year old darling grandson 'baby T'.
Never done one before. This is the first time I'm actually doing a routine to music. Same for baby T...it's absolutely terrifying for him!
No idea whether he might just go on strike at the very last minute....still.
He's only doing so because of me. Love him!
Cheers!

Hi Mr Yip
I'm very glad to hear that you would be entertaining at Suntec City today. I was there after 4pm yesterday for the MOE Excel Fest and I wandered down the booths, and then I saw the Uke Stall and I was hoping to meet you in person but it was not to be. You must have had your session earlier.

I saw many active agers at the Carnival. It was certainly crowded. At the Uke booth, there were a few dashing active agers explaining to some enthusiastic ladies what the beginner class in ukulele entails.

It is certainly one of the best ways to get engaged in an activity where you are able to learn good hand-eye coordination and to be able to make music must be a dream many have dreamed of.

I'm sure you will wow the audience with your full version of Iz' Somewhere over the Rainbow! Go the full monty, Mr Yip! It is so therapeutic to hear it being played and how often do we get to listen to someone making music for free? A song that many of us can hum and sing to.

Again, work is stacked up to my neck and I just couldn't make it to your music station today. Another time and another place, maybe, Mr Yip!

I am sure many will agree with me that you are the embodiment of an active ager - swinging around, entertaining friends and strangers, making new friends, making music, decked out in sponsored sports wear - how many of us wished to be in your shoes! Just how many active senior citizens can endorse a branded sports wear at this age? Isn't this a dream one dreams of and it is coming true?

May I wish you lots of fun and joy in your message to all active agers to get out and get moving!

By the way, you look so good in that modelling outfit featured on The Straits Times on Friday. How many of us can claim to have a calendar filled to the brim, and overflowing to match that of a young person along the business district?

Go all the way, Mr Yip! Enjoy yourself with Baby T!

Reached there at 1.45pm Sunday. Couldn't find the stage you were supposed to appear on. Asked a group of Senior ukelele players.

And this Dick is what they told me when I mentioned your name, "Oh! That one is a different group. We are in this group. We don't know where he is appearing..."

I tried. Anyway congrats. Maybe the next time.

It's ok Andy. The group of people you spoke with were probably those who operated a booth where they were essentially selling and signing up visitors for beginners uke courses. The main guy there and a few others certainly knows who I am and where me and my group was performing. Remember, we were only there a day before on Sat.
However, I spent some time even jamming with them at about 1.15 pm plus on Sunday!!!

Our segment started on the dot at 2.25 pm just about 30 metres from where you were - the demo stage is right at the closed end of level 3.

I would not want to speculate on the reasons for their "unhelpful" answer to you. But the fact remains whoever( I know not who) answered you chose to be unhelpful and ungentlemanly for reasons that do not speak well of them as older folks.

Hi Uncle Dick!

I was not being able to make it to Suntec on sunday :( It was certainly a waste not being able to catch the performance and many more!

Do you have any other fellow peers that I may be able to ask permission to interview them with my survey questionnaire? I can e-mail you or meet up with you all at your frequent practice area; to your convenience.

Your help is greatly appreciated! and I am really glad you responded to my request :)

Good day to you!
