Hong Lin Primary School, Wuhan

We also visited another Primary School nearby...Hong Lin Primary School. After the introductions, D2 formally presented her school's pupil handbook and yearbook to the principal.

In the photo he can be seen having a look at the contents within, with D2 and Jessica helping to explain. Then we sat down in their meeting room and had a lively exchange.

The Principal and his key staff showed us around the school. We can see that China has placed a lot of emphasis on the education of its people as evident in what we have so far seen here in Wuhan.

A gathering of Wuhan artists

After I snapped some shots of the previous kids with their drawings, suddenly all the kids wanted to show us their artwork. I was only too happy to oblige.

D2 and the art teacher behind her and Melissa as well, being surrounded by the kids and their artwork.

Principal Zheng, the art teacher and Jessica were quite amused by the spontaniety of the children's actions.

The kids were obviously very proud and happy that we appreciated the talent that was on display.
Then a few of the kids handed their artwork to us. We were completely taken by surprise. Their teacher said they would like to give them to us...likely in memory of our visit and the open-hearted appreciation we've shown. Soon, all the other kids also gave us their art pieces...which will be displayed at GSPS.

The art teacher, seen here beaming with pride, should be commended for the way that art has been taught to her kids.
The arrangement in the art room certainly can be described as encouraging and allowing the kids to try out various mediums, "mess around" in free and creative expressions....and the end result is what you have seen here....

simply unbelievable drawings from ones so young.

Some of the very Best Wuhan Art!

This piece of art work has everything. There is very good use of colours and the 2 cartoon animals are portrayed holding hands under an arch....which even has semblance of shadow play to the left of the arch. The serrated background in blue adds a nice effect and dimensional clarity to the overall beauty and simplicity of the drawing. It was because I
admired this drawing so much and this cute young creator who drew it that I asked him to pose for a picture with D2.
The next photo shows wonderful creativity. The face is depicted with fruits and leaves!
Most kids will not have known about the importance of making the eyes come out alive with 2 white dots.
This kid knew!

Here is one of the very best drawings

I've seen....perhaps the best.
It catches the eye immediately with the beautiful and creative inter-play of tones, shades and variations of depth of colour. There is something symbolic and surreal about this picture. No...not just the black and white upraised hands that seem to reach out for this impressive bird of the sky. From the bird's mouth come a message of hope, peace and goodwill. How do I know all this you may ask ?
Oh...I forgot to tell you all, I still have the imagination of a kid in me!

The Evidence is here!

This little girl has drawn what appears to be a cat from imagination.
The figure is expressive and she has not added full colours yet.

This little kid is really good with colours and accuracy in his drawings.

Now can you imagine this coming out from one so young. For me, I don't have to imagine. I saw it with my own eyes. He may not realise it himself, but his artwork shows style...a little like abstract art.

Excellent!

The artist and her beautiful drawing.

Superb Budding Artists !

The Principal of the Kindergarten next led us to an 0n-going Art class...in their art room. Remember, these are the same type of kids aged 3-5 years.
As we stepped into the room, I looked closely at the pupils artwork already displayed around the walls. It was unbelievable....the quality and standard was very high. My 1st thoughts were that these were the works of much older kids like those in the Primary school.
But taking a real close-up look at the kids who were actually doing their drawings, paintings and colouring right before our eyes, we were all so

impressed by everything we saw. For me personally, this must be one of the best kindergarten art classes I have come across in all my years.
Top photo:
The kids know who they are...its all on the board.
2nd photo:
Mrs Yip, accompanied by Principal Zheng, admiring the on-going young artists' work.

Some of the finished work displayed

prominently in the exhibit wall section.
They testify to the excellent work that is being carried out by the teachers of art.
The way that art materials of all kind and manner can be found in the room and made so easily available to the kids is most commendable.

I observed that the kids appeared happy and motivated with art.

They even use different mediums for expression. For example, these kind of drawings require very precise and patient, small movements to execute.

Simply Irresistible !!!

When this little girl grows up I hope she will have this photo with her. And I hope she would have mastered enough of the English Language to be able to read this blog about herself and her kindergarten mates here. In fact, I do really hope that the teachers in Wuhan will encourage all of them to excel in the language as a motivation to read on their own...in the near future.
And this little girl would one day ask,
" Who was that sweet lady who carried me onto her lap and hugged me so lovingly that day in May 2008 ? "

" I would like to meet her again !"
Why?

" To tell her that my friend next to me was tickling my ears..and I think he was jealous that I got all the attention! ".

Another great bunch of kids with Melissa. Dennis was partly hidden on the right of the picture.

All of them were sitting in a sort of circle when the teacher explained the game of Chinese Whispers. The teacher started it by whispering into the ear of the 1st kid on the left a sentence. Then that kid did the same to the kid on his left and on it went.

I was enjoying the spectacle when the pass-on action reached the last boy seen here grinning in a red shirt.
He was told to whisper to me!
Mind you, the sentence was in Mandarin.
Fortunately, I understood what he said and I had to say it aloud to everyone. There was much clapping after that! Ha ha!

Anything You can do I can do Better !

The girls had shown their grace and talent in performing the dance. So what could this little chaps do? Not to be outdone by their more genteel classmates they went all out in an attempt to prove the old time song,
" Anything you can do I can do better", correct.
So, the boys performed a kung fu routine with kung fu music that would have made their Wudang forefathers proud.
In case you do not know, the famous Wudang sect of Chinese martial art originated here in Hubei Province at
Mt Wudang in the ancient past. That happened to be one place I most wanted to visit in Hubei. However, owing to a lack of time, as it is far away from Wuhan, I have no choice but to mark it down for my next revisit here.
